Suzanne
North was born in Huddersfield and became a professional
sculptor in 1998. She works mainly with Serpentine and Delabole
Slate and metal casting, recently adding perspex to
the medium. Her fascination lies with matter, energy
and the beginnings of life .Her use of perspex has brought
a new kind of energy to her work enlivening it even more.
her work has been shown nationally and she was recently asked
to work a piece of stone from Barbara Hepworths studio, which
now in the Wakefield Art Gallery Collection.
Doug Binder
was born in Bradford and shunned international stardom in
the 60s to follow his original interest in representative
oil painting. He studied with Hockney at the Royal College
of Art and is now Director of Dean Clough Galleries. Alfred
Hickling of the Guardian said of his work "small,
yellowy and glorious. All of them feature a hazy nude, but
the real subject is the joyful elan with which Binder makes
molten, amber paint look as luminous as a supernova"

Glass from
Steve Robinson

|
I became
hooked on glass in the early 1990s and went on to complete
a glass degree at the University of Wolverhampton.
For me the beauty and fascination of glass lies in the interplay
with light, and the resulting illumination of the colour within.
I love the ability to look into the glass and see miniature
galaxies of bubbles, vibrant colour and texture – I guess
I'm just a colour junkie!
I work in kiln-formed glass, fusing layers of glass with enamel
colours. Much of my inspiration for the pieces I create comes
from the natural world. I am originally from Scotland, and
love the gorgeous marine colours and textures of the West
Highland coastline. I am now based in Pembrokeshire on the
Welsh coast, where the landscape and history continue to fuel
my creative imagination.
